Eco-Zapotec Half Marathon, a Race with Purpose
Reforesting Monte Albán
On June 8, Monte Albán was the setting for the first Eco-Zapotec Half Marathon "Legacy of Monte Albán," where hundreds of runners participated in 5, 10, and 21-kilometer races. Organized by Mezcal Capotlán, the event blended sport, culture, and environmental awareness, with all proceeds dedicated to the reforestation of the archaeological site. Along a unique route with breathtaking views, participants not only ran but also helped plant an ecological legacy. The initiative stood out for its use of sustainable technologies, such as organic planters and composting of mezcal production waste. The event was supported by local authorities and COMERCAM, and updates on the reforestation efforts will be shared publicly.
